Exhibition “Samovars and Old Believers”
The exhibition's collection contains more than 50 samovars from various eras, countries, with different shapes and heating methods. The oldest samovar dates back to 1810. Samovars are accompanied by a multitude of tea glass holders (more than a hundred pieces). Photos of Russian Old Believers illustrate the walls. The exhibition also contains traditional items of the Old Believers, such as tea time and everything it entails, clothing, furniture, church equipment, icons, iconostasis, lampada, lestovkas, podrusniks, etc. You can also buy souvenirs, handicrafts and novelty products by the brand Varvara Gourmet.
Kalevipoeg’s Museum
The Kalevipoeg Museum represents one of the 21 places, marked with a National Geographic's yellow window, that are worth exploring in Southern Estonia. The museum is named after Estonian national epic "Kalevipoeg" because the Kääpa River is where the sword of Kalevipoeg is located, and around it are resting places, rocks, springs, swamps, and furrows. Kuremaa beach
The northern shore of Lake Kuremaa is home to the only beach in Jõgeva County manned by lifeguards. Here you will find a 250-metre stretch of golden sand, aquabikes and boat hire, a beachfront cafe, a playground, areas for ball games, a caravan park and more. You can also camp here. The swimming area is marked by buoys. The water temperature is measured constantly, with information provided on special stands.
Põltsamaa Museum
Põltsamaa Museum is located within the walls of the ancient Põltsamaa Ordensburg. Põltsamaa Museum gives an overview of the glorious past of the stronghold, town and the parish: Interesting facts: During the Livonian War the castle was the residence of the King of Livonia In the 19th century the castle was a Rococo style castle, a flourishing centre of culture and industry.
Kursi’s Sts. Mary and Elisabeth Church of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church
Baroque architecture in concordance with pseudo Gothic architecture (alteration by Johann Gottfired Mühlhausen). Twelve small spiring pinnacles symbolise the twelve apostles of Jesus. The church manor is a historical parochial centre; there is a museum in the vicarage (built in 1817).
Kuremaa mill
Kuremaa mill is part of the Kuremaa manor complex; the fully renovated mill reopened in 2009. The ground floor is home to a function room with its own fireplace and a sales counter, while the first floor is the perfect place for exhibitions and training events. The second floor hosts an exhibition on the Dutch-style windmills that can be found in Estonia – including its most impressive piece, a model of the Kuremaa windmill. Põltsamaa Castle
The stone fortress was constructed on the banks of the Põltsamaa River already in 1272. Later on (1570–1578) the fortress was the residence of Livonia's King Magnus. Repeatedly pillaged, the castle was rebuilt by Woldemar Johann von Lauw. In the 18th century the fortress became a grand rococo-style palace. The castle and the church burnt down in 1941. Luua Arboretum
Luua Arboretum exhibits about 500 species and forms of trees and bushes. The arboretum was founded based on the principles of botanical geography with the departments for plants from Europe, Siberia, Central Asia, the Far East and North America.
Kassinurme Hillfort and Sacred Grove
The Kassinurme ancient area was established 1.5 thousand years ago. The sacred grove was discovered when the settlement was established, and it is one of the oldest sacred places in Estonia. A fragment of the ancient fort has been restored. At present the sacred grove is the favourite place for history enthusiasts who organise ancient war games there, revive old folk customs, and celebrate folk calendar holidays. The health trail lets visitors see the varied nature of the region and enjoy beautiful surface forms.
Aruküla hill recreation area
There is a lovely recreation area on Aruküla hill in Kaarepere which is perfect for families, friends, and larger groups. There is a playground with swings and a slide, especially loved by younger children. You can rest under the shelter or on benches or your own picnic blanket. Barbecue facilities are also available on site. Visitors can also play disc golf (there is a rental point). The Struve Geodetic Arc is also located in the recreation area. The view of Vooremaa from the hill is magnificent and there is plenty of room for camping.
