Põltsamaa Wine Cellar
Põltsamaa Wine Cellar has become one of the town's true tourist magnets. Here you can taste and buy all the wines from the local wine selection. In summer 2023 an exquisite restaurant called Oberpahlen was opened near the cellar. Come and enjoy wines from Põltsamaa and other places of Estonia as well as delicious food from the restaurant menu. In addition, the cellar offers wine tasting packages for groups including either three or five wines.
Avinurme Puiduait Arts & Crafts Store
Avinurme Puiduait Arts & Crafts Store has the largest selection of wooden handicrafts in Estonia. Baskets, water buckets for sauna, hot pads, spatulas, butter knives, and thousands of other accessories for the kitchen and household. In addition to water buckets, there are ladles as well as foot- and headrests. In addition to local wood crafts, we sell Estonian natural cosmetics, as well as beautiful textiles and carpets. Estonian design and handicrafts can be found on our two floors. In addition to shopping, you can also order various workshops from us and have a bite to eat in our cafe.
Restaurant Kosmos
The restaurant consists of two parts: an 80-seat main dining room and a separate private dining room for up to 35 guests. The main dining room offers a cosy atmosphere and WiFi. The small dining room is suitable for smaller gatherings booked in advance (birthdays, company parties).
Peipsi Teemaja Arts and Crafts Shop
Peipsi Teemaja Arts and Crafts Shop offers a wide selection of local handicrafts. There is a large selection of baskets, sauna buckets, thermometers, etc. for sale from the Avinurme Woodworking Centre. You will also find a selection of knitted mittens from local grandmothers, which will keep your hands warm even in the cold Estonian weather. In addition, you simply have to try Ivan Chai when near Lake Peipus. You can also buy it as a gift. We also offer delicious local food and sweets.
The house of rural town elder Carl Schmidt
This cafe, situated in the heart of Põltsamaa, provides catering to up to 100 people (with group menus available). Daily soups and specials are also offered. Live music evenings are held here from time to time, and in the summer you can enjoy the fine weather on the terrace, which seats up to 30.
Aruküla hill recreation area
There is a lovely recreation area on Aruküla hill in Kaarepere which is perfect for families, friends, and larger groups. There is a playground with swings and a slide, especially loved by younger children. You can rest under the shelter or on benches or your own picnic blanket. Barbecue facilities are also available on site. Visitors can also play disc golf (there is a rental point). The Struve Geodetic Arc is also located in the recreation area. The view of Vooremaa from the hill is magnificent and there is plenty of room for camping.
Põltsamaa Castle
The stone fortress was constructed on the banks of the Põltsamaa River already in 1272. Later on (1570–1578) the fortress was the residence of Livonia's King Magnus. Repeatedly pillaged, the castle was rebuilt by Woldemar Johann von Lauw. In the 18th century the fortress became a grand rococo-style palace. The castle and the church burnt down in 1941. Only the church was restored in 1952. The castle remained in ruins, waiting for its time. The complex is open again from the summer of 2023. Coop Hotel
Coop Hotel is located on the main street of Jõgeva, in the city centre, in a house with a dignified history. It all started almost 100 years ago in 1919, when the Jõgeva Economic Union was formed – the goal was to open a main store in the town.Coop Hotel opened its doors in September 2021, continuing the long history of the house. Kassinurme Hillfort and Sacred Grove
The Kassinurme ancient area was established 1.5 thousand years ago. The sacred grove was discovered when the settlement was established, and it is one of the oldest sacred places in Estonia. A fragment of the ancient fort has been restored. At present the sacred grove is the favourite place for history enthusiasts who organise ancient war games there, revive old folk customs, and celebrate folk calendar holidays. The health trail lets visitors see the varied nature of the region and enjoy beautiful surface forms.
