Avinurme Handicrafts Centre’s Café

The smell of freshly baked bread blends with the smell of wood creating an especially cosy and homelike atmosphere in the Handicrafts Centre's Café. Almost all the visitors praise the delicious coffee and charming interior of the Handicrafts Centre. Every traveller will get a bellyful and by previous agreement, we also offer refreshments to larger groups. The café's lunch menu includes soups and different main courses, also pizzas. Weaving Chipwood Baskets in the Avinurme Wooden Handicrafts Center

Weaving a chipwood basket is the most popular attraction in the wooden handicraft centre and if there's a place in Estonia where this craft is known, it's Avinurme. Everyone can learn the basics of weaving a basket in the workshop with the help of an instructor: you pick out chipwood, weave a berry basket from the chips and finally apply a finish. Jõgewa Museum

Jõgewa Museum displays historical items that are mostly connected to the history of Jõgeva County; the general title of the exhibition is 'Jõgeva County's Local History 1900–1945'. A particularly interesting section of the exhibition features weapons used during WWII. Good to know: schools can organize history lessons on the museum premises.

Avinurme Puiduait Arts & Crafts Store has the largest selection of wooden handicrafts in Estonia. Baskets, water buckets for sauna, hot pads, spatulas, butter knives, and thousands of other accessories for the kitchen and household. In addition to water buckets, there are ladles as well as foot- and headrests. In addition to local wood crafts, we sell Estonian natural cosmetics, as well as beautiful textiles and carpets. Estonian design and handicrafts can be found on our two floors. In addition to shopping, you can also order various workshops from us and have a bite to eat in our cafe.

Puiduait seminar room in Avinurme

The rooms at Puiduait in Avinurme are perfect for training events, seminars and workshops. There are three seminar rooms: hall (36 seats), wood room (20 seats) and the bread room (20 seats). The Puiduait has an ethnical atmosphere and you can add some fun workshops into your training programme: weaving a basket, baking bread, felting and many more. Tables can be arranged differently in the hall: 1.    U-shape  – max. 30 seats 2.    Roundtable  – max. 36 seats 3.    Classroom – max. 36 seats

Kalevipoeg’s Museum

The Kalevipoeg Museum represents one of the 21 places, marked with a National Geographic's yellow window, that are worth exploring in Southern Estonia. The museum is named after Estonian national epic "Kalevipoeg" because the Kääpa River is where the sword of Kalevipoeg is located, and around it are resting places, rocks, springs, swamps, and furrows. Peipsi Teemaja Arts and Crafts Shop offers a wide selection of local handicrafts. There is a large selection of baskets, sauna buckets, thermometers, etc. for sale from the Avinurme Woodworking Centre. You will also find a selection of knitted mittens from local grandmothers, which will keep your hands warm even in the cold Estonian weather. In addition, you simply have to try Ivan Chai when near Lake Peipus. You can also buy it as a gift. We also offer delicious local food and sweets.

Sõpruse Park

Sõpruse Park is the newest park in Põltsamaa, with the first tree being planted in May 1973. Today it has more than 6000 trees, mostly from the Luua Nursery. Many of the trees have been planted in the park by prominent Estonian and foreign social, cultural and sports figures. There are also a number of sculptures in the park, including the monumental 'Road to Olympus', which bears the names of Estonia's Olympic medal winners throughout history.

Lustivere Manor

First records which mention the manor date back to 1552. The manor house inspired by Neo-Gothic style was built based on the designs of an architect and researcher of antiquities from Tartu, R.von Guleke, and it is one of the most remarkable manor houses in the centre of Estonia. At present the manor houses a retirement home. * The manor can only be viewed from the outside.
